John J Zullo Dance Presents World Premiere of HOW BRIEF ETERNITY, 4/28-5/1

John J Zullo Dance presents an evening of two works, including the World Premiere of How Brief Eternity, from April 28 - May 1, 2011 at Theater for the New City, 155 First Avenue (between 9th and 10th Streets), NYC. The evening includes the World Premiere of How Brief Eternity, an exploration of enduring hatreds that can prosper in a flawed society. The work's conception and creation was inspired by the article "The Hunted" by Matt McAllester in New York Magazine about the genocide of gay men in Iraq as well as the Human Rights Watch report "They Want Us Exterminated: Murder, Torture, Sexual Orientation and Gender in Iraq." Mio Morales has composed original music for the piece, which will be danced by Christina Chelette, Mike Hodge, Jenna Liberati, Ashley Linsey, Brigitte Mitchell, Or Sagi and John J Zullo. Costume design by Hector Perez, set design by Sean Haynes, lighting design by Lily Meyer and video design by Rodney Zagury. insignificant others explores the fleeting relationships experienced between longer, more meaningful ones - the brief moments, encounters and connections. The work, set to the music of Patsy Cline, Peteris Vasks and The Tractor's Revenge, will be danced by Christina Chelette, Mike Hodge, Jenna Liberati, Ashley Lindsey, Brigitte Mitchell, Or Sagi, Kate Vincek and John J Zullo. John J Zullo Dance explores ideas from the cultural landscape that are transformed into movement. The company is expressive, imaginative and kinetic, while striving to create and share these dances in the hope of eliciting an emotional response to a movement-based experience. JJZDance has performed at Green Space in LIC for the Fertile Ground Series, been presented at the Evolve Festival in Tarrytown, New York, the Blooms Festival at Green Space, the Hatch series at the Muller Studio and Sunday Brunch Series at the Rover Soho. The company has also been presented at the IndepenDance Festival at City Center Studio 5 as well as a full evening presentation with Take Root @ Green Space January 15th, 2011. John J Zullo's choreography draws from several movement styles including voguing, athletics, break dancing and the gestural to create unique and visceral dance performances. As a young teenager in New York, Zullo was directly exposed to diverse elements of movement in Manhattan clubs. He graduated from American University in 1996 with a B.A. in Anthropology and 1999 with an M.A. in Dance. John danced with many artists while at American, and was privileged to perform in the work of Ohad Naharin, as well as having his work presented at Dance Place in Washington, DC and being awarded the Arts Club of Washington's Award for Outstanding Choreographer. Since returning to NYC in 1999 he has danced with Andrew Jannetti and Dancers, Barry Blumenfeld TAPFUSION and began his long friendship / collaboration with Jeff Rebudal in 2001 and has worked as a dancer, Rehearsal & Associate Director since 2005. Most recently John has danced with Regina Nejman Company, performing in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and in NYC. He is currently creating and performing his own choreography with John J Zullo Dance and teaching, most recently at the Jan Martin Dance School in Long Island, New York; Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan; the Rover Soho and the YMCA/Evolve Dance in Tarrytown, New York.

Mio Morales has created scores for the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Dance Theater of Harlem, Niewe Dans Grope of Holland, Dallas Black Dance, Nashville Ballet, Philadanco, Oregon Ballet Theater, Dayton Contemporary Dance and Concourdance Compagnie International de Danse de Paris among others. He has collaborated with choreographers Donald Byrd, Gus Solomons, Jane Comfort, Doug Elkins, Bill Young, Colleen Thomas, Milton Myers, Renee Wadleigh, Regina Nejman and many others. As a sound designer he has worked with Mabou Mines, Marty Potteneger, Jay Austin Williams, Theater for the New City and The Long Wharf Theater. He has directed both musicals and plays both off-Broadway and abroad. Mr. Morales holds a degree in Theater from Tufts University and is a master teacher of The Alexander Technique.
