Hubbard Street Dance Chicago Will Return to The Joyce in May

The Joyce Theater will present a two-week engagement of Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, from May 12-24, offering two programs that include works by Alejandro Cerrudo, Nacho Duato, Ji?íKylián and Crystal Pite. Celebrating its 37th season in 2014-15, under the artistic leadership of Glenn Edgerton, Hubbard Street continues to innovate, supporting its creative talent while presenting repertory by the field's internationally recognized living artists. For its Joyce Theater engagement, the magnificent company of dancers performs two distinct programs.

Program A features an excerpt from Alejandro Cerrudo's Second to Last, a beautiful exploration of relationships, and Cloudless, the choreographer's intimate female duet; A Picture of You Falling, a powerhouse solo work by Crystal Pite; Robyn Mineko Williams' Waxing Moon, the former Hubbard Street dancer's third collaboration with Chicago composer Robert F. Haynes and fashion designer Hogan McLaughlin; and Gustavo Ramírez Sansano's I am Mister B, a tribute to George Balanchine danced by the Hubbard Street ensemble.

Program B includes Falling Angels, Ji?í Kylián's inventive work for eight women; The Impossible, by Alejandro Cerrudo, a piece that raises intriguing questions about memory, mortality, partnership and the human spirit; PACOPEPEPLUTO, also by Cerrudo, an audience favorite featuring three male solos set to songs by Dean Martin; and Nacho Duato's Gnawa, a vibrant ensemble work which taps the Mediterranean spirit of North Africa and Duato's native Spain.

The Joyce Theater presents the return of Hubbard Street Dance Chicago from May 12 - 24. Performances are as follows: Tuesday - Wednesday at 7:30pm; Thursday - Friday at 8pm; Saturday at 2pm & 8pm; Sunday at 2pm.
