As night falls on a non-descript office building in Chinatown, two shadowy figures of undetermined loyalty appear. Joined by musicians from four-piece French-Canadian band Claire Gignac et compagnie, they lead the audience on a clue-finding mission through the underbelly of the cavernous under-construction building, working to solve a mystery-through choreography-in Heidi Duckler's Chinatown Bleu in May.

A small, kimono-clad woman pushes a gigantic brush around a gallery floor-sized canvas, beautiful calligraphy materializes in her wake. Around her, hip-hop dancers break, pop, lock and krump their way around the floor, led by the visual language of the calligraphy and meeting it with their physical expression- all to the percussive melodies of Jodie Landau's vibraphone. In June, Duckler's dancers will be joined by Isa Hirano, Japan's top calligrapher to perform Brush Up in Glendale's Brand Library & Art Center.

Each of the upcoming performances celebrates Duckler's decades-long commitment to cultural exchange and bringing international artists to Los Angeles.

Chinatown Bleu - May 29, 8:30pm & May 30, 8pm - 837 N Spring St. Los Angeles, 90012
Brush Up - June 13, 2pm & 5pm - Brand Library & Art Center 1601 W Mountain St. Glendale, 91201
