This once a month series supports dance makers by providing our venue, Green Space, with full technical and marketing support.

Admission: $15
Tickets are available at the door or online at www.GreenSpaceStudio.org

About the Work:

Drastic Action: Drastic Action will premiere "Dis/Location," a half-hour dance based on Geismar's experience as the child of an immigrant and on interviews with immigrants from all over the world. Four human-sized canvas sacks alternately transport, confine and protect the dancers. The piece explores the painfulness of leaving home, the rituals we use to make a new home, the awkwardness of trying to fit into a new culture and our struggle for connection with one another. The company will also perform "Attachment" (2014) a duet exploring the push and pull of our earliest relationships with original music by Canadian Folk Music Award Nominee, Annabelle Chvostek. The dancers are Allie Harris, Kaoru Ikeda, Alessandra Larson, Betty Skeen, Darla Stanley and Debra Wanner. Costumes by Jennifer Lee.

These performances are supported by The PSC-CUNY Research Foundation, and a Mertz Gilmore Foundation Late Stage Production Stipend facilitated through Green Space.

Company/ Choreographer Biographies:

Drastic Action is a modern dance company directed by choreographer, Aviva Geismar. Geismar's dances are inspired by the nuances and paradoxes of human behavior. The company has performed at many national venues including Inside/Out at Jacob's Pillow, The Millennium Stage at The Kennedy Center, Symphony Space, Merkin Concert Hall and Dance Theater Workshop. Between 2006 and 2010 Drastic Action performed and taught throughout Germany as part of a State Department sponsored program, Dancing to Connect. The company is planning a performance and educational project in Washington Heights and Fort Tryon Park for 2016. Geismar is an Assistant Professor in the Dance Program at Queensborough Community College.

FERTILE GROUND is a monthly new works showcase for emerging and established artists now in its 9th season, producing the work of over 50 choreographers each year. This non-curated performance event features five or six choreographers each evening and includes a post-performance discussion with wine and cheese, moderated by Green Space's Artistic Director, Valerie Green.
