Carriageworks Welcomes New Resident Company

By:

Carriageworks has welcomed a new resident company, Contemporary Asian Australian Performance (CAAP), the critically acclaimed performing arts group formerly known as Performance 4a committed to delivering culturally diverse Australian stories through contemporary theatre.

CAAP Executive Producer Annette Shun Wah said: "Carriageworks is undoubtedly the most exciting arts centre in the country, and we're thrilled to be joining the exceptional group of companies in residence. We have a strong affinity with Carriageworks' programming philosophy - three of our previous works premiered there - and their dedication to ambitious, risk taking work, diversity and artist support provide an ideal environment for our small company's evolution."

Carriageworks Director Lisa Havilah said: "We are delighted to welcome CAAP as resident company at Carriageworks and fully support its vision to work with artists representative of a richly diverse and inclusive multicultural Australia."

"As part of our six year strategy, Carriageworks is dedicated to presenting new Australian stories that are culturally diverse, with more than 70% of artists involved in the Carriageworks artistic program being from culturally diverse backgrounds. CAAP is one of the best companies in Australia delivering culturally diverse stories and an excellent fit within our broader vision.

"In welcoming CAAP as a resident company, Carriageworks is proud to support the small to medium performing arts sector in a time of considerable change and upheaval,"added Lisa Havilah.

Representing the first permanent home for the company, Carriageworks has a long history of working with CAAP, including presenting Stories Then and Now in 2013 and the company's critically acclaimed Sydney Festival works The Serpent's Table in 2014 and In Between Two 2016.
