The Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company is launching a series of events in celebration of its 30th season, commencing with a family fun performance at the Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown, N.J. on Sunday, October 21 at 3:00 p.m.

As part of its “Backstage Pass” performances, the audience will be treated to an interactive afternoon with Carolyn and the dancers while experiencing several of CDDC’s well known works to include:

  • Keystone — Set to classic songs by Rufus Wainwright, Louis Armstrong, and Jamie Randolph, Keystone is a duet that explores the endurance of relationships and the concept of staying power in a world that continues to embrace fast digital communication that is not aligned with the human pulse or true intimacy.
  • Cercle d’Amour — Cercle d’Amour opens a dialogue on love that invites audiences to think, laugh, and enjoy and explores the visual and movement metaphors evoked by a resonant and versatile prop — brilliant red hula-hoops. Featuring music by Andy Tierstein, this ensemble work illuminates various aspects of relationships including play, competition, and fantasy.
  • Narcoleptic Lovers — Narcoleptic Lovers was originally choreographed in 1995 by the talented and witty Doug Elkins, who described it as a series of letters to former lovers. Using his signature eclectic movement vocabulary, the work draws on modern, hip-hop, ballet and martial arts with an equally broad range of music – Mozart, hip-hop by Urban Species and spoken word samples of Lenny Bruce.

This will be a narrated performance by Ms. Dorfman and the audience will have the opportunity to engage with the dancers as well.

The highlight of CDDC’s 30th anniversary season will take place on April 13, 2013 with a gala performance and benefit at Kean University. Additionally, public and school-time performances, open rehearsals, meet-the-artists events, post performance discussions and master classes and teacher training workshops are also scheduled. The Union-county based Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company is led by the dynamic vision of Artistic Director Carolyn Dorfman and her creative drive to communicate human experiences, interactions, perceptions, and truths. CDDC’s ten members comprise a uniquely talented contemporary dance ensemble. The Company presents the works of Carolyn Dorfman and nationally known choreographers. With bold athleticism, dramatic nuance, and musical range, CDDC's high-energy and technically demanding repertory uses movement as metaphor to take audiences on intellectual and emotional. CDDC appears at major theaters, dance festivals, and universities regionally, nationally, and internationally and is lauded for its artistry and exceptional arts education and community programming.
