Dancewave, a Brooklyn-based dance education nonprofit organization, hosts the annual Dancing Through College & Beyond (DTCB) event on October 13th and 14th at Hunter College. The comprehensive two-day event provides students and families with information, connections, auditions and inspiration for the college process and their future as the next generation of dancers. The increasingly popular event is currently sold out, with limited opportunities to attend portions of the event open to the public.

Dancing Through College & Beyond, the only event of its kind on the East Coast, hosts colleges and universities from across the United States and Canada, increases student opportunities to meet and audition for multiple dance programs and removes the financial and logistical barriers that dancers and guardians often face with individual college visits. Participating students attend panel discussions to learn about career opportunities in the dance field, creating a robust portfolio of work, and navigating the admissions and financial aid process. Peer-to-peer discussion sessions offer an opportunity for attendees to build relationships with college students and alumni, providing insight into dance at the collegiate level. Master classes taught by distinguished college dance faculty are offered to students throughout the weekend.

New this year, the Careers in Dance panel and College Showcase Performance will be open to the public. Careers in Dance features a keynote address with world-famous, inspiring choreographer Camille A. Brown. Ms. Brown received a B.F.A. from University of North Carolina School of the Arts and Dancewave is delighted to welcome her to Dancing Through College & Beyond as a representative of the heart of the event: inspiring students to study dance in college, and the opportunities in their world after graduation. Entrance to the Careers in Dance panel is free (registration required). High school students who are not yet registered for the weekend-long event are welcome to contact Dancewave for tickets.

The DTCB 2018 College Showcase Performance & Benefit for Young Dancers takes place on Saturday, October 13th, 6:30-7:30pm. The Showcase features college dancers from Hunter College, Marymount Manhattan College, Peridance Capezio Center, Queensborough Community College, Sacred Heart University, Slippery Rock University, The University of the Arts, University at Buffalo, and Pace University. Funds raised at this performance support the continued efforts of Dancewave to bring free and low-cost programming to further young dancers' access to resources like Dancing Through College & Beyond. Tickets are $21, group rates available. Advanced purchase required.

"DTCB is a comprehensive event that offers high school dancers from all backgrounds the opportunity to learn about college dance programs in a fun and informative weekend," says Dancewave's Executive and Artistic Director Diane Jacobowitz. "We are thrilled to present DTCB to so many young dancers this year and to be able to open portions of the event to the public, bringing the joy of dance and inspiration for the future to the next generation of dancers!"
