Award-Winning Dancers to Hit Cal State Fullerton in FALL DANCE THEATRE

The nationally acclaimed, "Fall Dance Theatre" is coordinated by Cal State Fullerton dance professor Gladys Kares and runs October 20-30, 2016 in the Little Theatre on CSUF campus. "Fall Dance Theatre" includes original choreography by students, faculty, and guest artists. CSUF dancers were recently featured in Washington DC's Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and at Jacob's Pillow, lauded worldwide as "one of America's most precious cultural assets" (Mikhail Baryshnikov), and "the dance center of the nation" ("The New York Times").

"Waltz and Peasants Pas de Deux," an excerpt from the classical ballet, "Giselle," is choreographed Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot and staged by professor Muriel Joyce. CSUF dance student Jessica Vela's piece, "The Dogma Affect," is choreographed to the music of Colin Stetson. "Ask and Tell" is choreographed by guest artist Joshua D. Estrada-Romero to the music of Jeroen Van Veen and Arvo Pärt. Modern contemporary jazz piece "Disintegrated Image" is performed to the music of Bedroom Eyes and choreographed by Victor Sanchez.

Guest director Daniel Jaber's contemporary hip-hop piece, "Weirdland," explores how falling in and out of love changes us. "When it Pours, it Pours on All of Us" is choreographed by student artist Nadine Tran and takes a brief look into how mental disorders affect individuals and those around them. Faculty member Macarena Gandarillas uses the music of Chantal Chamberland and Oris Rush to choreograph her jazz piece, "On the Rocks."

Scenic coordination is by Mauri Ann Smith, lighting coordination is by Debra Garcia Lockwood, costume coordination is by Bruce Goodrich, hair/makeup coordination is by Juliette Lunger and sound design is by Max Lippman

"Fall Dance Theatre" plays at 8 pm on October 20, 21, 22, 27, 28, 29, and at 2 pm on October 23, 30. General admission tickets are $14 ($12 with advance Titan Discount purchase for students, seniors or with a CSUF ID). All tickets are $14 at the door. Tickets are available by calling (657) 278-3371, 11am-5pm, Monday through Friday and online.

Soon to follow in the CSUF season is Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice" (adaptation by Jon Jory). Finding a husband is hardly the independent Elizabeth's most urgent priority. However, with four sisters, an overzealous matchmaking mother, and a string of unsuitable suitors, it is difficult to escape the subject. When she meets the handsome but enigmatic Mr. Darcy, she is determined not to let her feelings triumph over her own good sense -- but the truth turns out to be slipperier than it seems. "Pride and Prejudice" is directed by Mark Ramont and runs November 4-20, 2016 in the Young Theatre on campus.
