Alvin Ailey Dance Theater's Husband/Wife Duo Glenn And Linda Celeste Sims Are Expecting Baby Boy

Glenn Allen Sims and Linda Celeste Sims, who are treasured artists of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, have been quietly preparing to become parents of a new baby boy in April. This will be the first child born to Linda and Glenn, who have been dancers with Alvin Ailey since the mid-1990s and were married in January 2001.

The Sims have spent their entire careers dancing and training their way to excellence, rehearsing and performing around the world 43 weeks a year. Their bodies have endured thousands of performances. Yet, pregnancy has been one of the couple's most rewarding challenges. At 42 years old and having her first child, Linda Celeste Sims looks forward to combining her love of dance and motherhood. "This moment is by far the apex of my career. For many years, I used to say that I didn't want children, but when I lost my dad in May 2018, it all changed," Mrs. Sims reflects. "The love I had for my dad was so deep that I began to understand why children are so important in our lives."

Mr. Sims, 43, expounds on his wife's sentiments by speaking to the joy of becoming a parent at this stage of their ongoing, busy careers. "The timing couldn't be more divinely inspired. We have dedicated our lives to the integrity of being performing artists. Our cups have been to the rim. However, in recent years we felt something was missing. The addition of our son will add another important, fulfilling role to our lives."

Their baby boy will arrive a few weeks prior to Alvin Ailey's annual spring season at Lincoln Center. The obvious questions, given this news, might be when will they return to the stage? Will they return to the stage? The Sims, without hesitation, answer with an unequivocal "yes!" In fact, they are eagerly anticipating blending and balancing their lives as new parents with dance.

"This next chapter is uncharted for us. Thus far, we have been able to balance our relationship, careers, personal maintenance and family. I'm sure that parenting will have some challenges. However, I have an amazing woman by my side. We'll do it like we do everything - together," says Mr. Sims. Mrs. Sims continues, "Dance is my life. I still have something to share with the world. I know this is not the norm - to be a full-time mom and a full-time dancer - but why can't it be? I hope to open doors that have never been opened before. And I cannot wait to share with our son how the studio and the stage can be a place to be free."
