All performances take place at the main campus of the University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford, Conn., at no charge, unless otherwise noted. Capitol Symphonic Winds

Capitol Winds is a symphonic band comprised of students from the University of Hartford as well as members of the Greater Hartford community. The group plays challenging concert band literature and performs several concerts each year. The band has premiered works by Hartt composers and hosted guest soloists from the Hartford area.

Hartt students play for Rick Germanson, jazz pianist. Rick Germanson is highly in-demand on the New York City Jazz scene for well over a decade now. A native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Rick moved to New York City after winning the Grand Prize at The American Pianists' Association Jazz Piano Competition in Indianapolis, in 1996. He also was "Best of New Talent in 2004" by the publication All About Jazz NYC.

Comprised of undergraduate and graduate bass students, various sizes of ensembles are formed from trios to octets and rehearse twice weekly. The literature studied includes original works and transcriptions from all periods of Western music and contemporary pop culture; repertoire ranges from Monteverdi to Metallica. Special projects in the past have included working with composers on new pieces, collaborating with choreographers on movement-related works, and performing with a Balinese Gamelan orchestra. Concerts are presented each semester and occasional performances are given off-campus, the most recent being at the Bang On A Can Marathon in New York City.

Foot in the Door is a mixed ensemble of musicians whose repertoire includes music of established and emerging 20th- and 21st-century composers. Named for the autobiography of principal Hartt benefactor Alfred C. Fuller, who gained worldwide fame as the founder of the Fuller Brush Company and who always had to get a "foot in the door" as he pitched his merchandise door-to-door to potential customers, members play in a variety of ensemble sizes from small chamber groups to large chamber orchestras. Their name reflects the pluck, ingenuity, and perseverance our students bring to the task of promulgating new music, of all genres and types, to the wider world.

The Hartt Baroque Collegium is a conductorless ensemble that performs music of the 17th and 18th centuries. It is coached regularly by Emlyn Ngai, concertmaster of Philadelphia's renowned early music ensemble Tempesta di Mare. The Collegium explores performance techniques of the Baroque period, including articulation, rhythmic alteration, and ornamentation. Repertory from past performances has included the Brandenburg concerti and cantatas of J. S. Bach and chamber music by C. P. E. Bach and Boismortier.

Six anxious girls vie for the coveted title of Young American Miss in this satiric yet touching musical about the 1980s world of beauty pageants. Written by Marvin Hamlisch (A Chorus Line) and Howard Ashman (The Little Mermaid), the show follows the intrigue both onstage and behind-the-scenes as Santa Rosa, California plays host to the event. Audiences are in for a comical evening with this off-the-wall version of the original Nutcracker.

Returning by popular demand and featuring a whole new plot, Nutty Nutcracker is a hilarious spoof on The Nutcracker with all new outrageous material. During last year's debut of Nutty Nutcracker, audience members were crying with laughter at the antics on stage. This performance not only showcases multiple casts of HCD's dancers, but also some of Hartt School's Musical Theater majors, local celebrities and dignitaries, as well as many other surprises. This season's off-the-wall twists are sure to have audience members rolling in the aisles again.
