River Oaks Chamber Orchestra (ROCO) will take a unique musical voyage far and near this upcoming season titled Around the World in ROCO Ways. That theme is reflected in the 2013 - 2014 ROCO Chamber Series with a schedule of six Sunday afternoon concerts at Gremillion & Co. Fine Arts Annex. The ROCO Chamber Series features chamber groups drawn from within the orchestra. They are intimate concerts that highlight the virtuosity of individual musicians and ensembles and are intentionally designed to draw the audience into musical conversations.

The journey begins on Sunday, September 15 during a concert of Asian Influences featuring ROCO clarinetist Maiko Sasaki and the music of Debussy, Britten, Bartok, Hong along with a Fukushima Folksong. From there, ROCO Principal Cellist Richard Belcher has scheduled an Intercontinental Connection with Pianist Richard Stallmann, performing music by Scutlthorpe, Stallmann and Britten on October 13. ROCO Principal Horn Gavin Reed leads a creative expedition on November 17 for The Song and the Wind featuring songs transcribed for the horn and the beautiful, elegiac Brahms Horn Trio, written for horn, violin and piano.

The season continues on February 16, 2014 as a growing group of ROCO string musicians navigates a sensorial exploration titled 2 → 4 → 6. This performance will begin with two duets and build into a quartet and sextet in order to venture into how sonorities are developed as instruments are added. On March 9, ROCO feels the Rhythms of Paris and New Orleans with a quintet performing music by Sergei Prokofiev and Dave Anderson, who was inspired by Prokofiev to write a jazz composition with the same instrumentation. The 2013 - 2014 season concludes on April 27 with a French Salon concert that includes music by Poulenc and more, performed by Founder, Artistic Director and Principal Oboist Alecia Lawyer and Principal Bassoonist Kristin Wolfe Jensen.

Season tickets for the ROCO Chamber Series are available online at www.rocohouston.org or by calling 713.665.2700. Gremillion & Co. Fine Art Annex is located at 2504 Nottingham St. in Houston.
