PROVIDENCE, R.I. - October 14, 2015 - Mari-ann Tashjian Sullivan has been appointed Director of Development for the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra & Music School (RIPO&MS) beginning Tuesday, October 13, 2015. Ms. Sullivan leads the organization's development program and guides fundraising efforts. She will work with local organizations and businesses to create partnerships that further the efforts of RIPO&MS to enrich and transform Rhode Island culturally, educationally and economically through music.
Executive Director David Beauchesne stated, "We are excited about Mari-ann joining our team. She brings a wealth of knowledge about fundraising and great leadership skills honed over a successful career. Everywhere she has worked Mari-ann has increased giving by engaging people in supporting the mission. She is truly passionate about our RIPO&MS mission to bring great performances and high quality music education to all of Rhode Island and our region. We look forward to expanding our base of support and broadening the impact of RIPO&MS on the community through her efforts."
RIPO&MS relies annually on donations for close to 50% of its annual operating budget, as well as for needed capital investment, endowment growth, and program innovation called for in the current Strategic Plan. Sullivan will steward an Annual Fund of over $2 million and the completion of a $10 million plus Strategic Initiatives Campaign, which has already garnered almost $6 million in commitments.
Ms. Sullivan comes to RIPO&MS from Johnson & Wales University, where she was Assistant Director of the Annual Fund. During her nearly 20-year career as a development professional, Ms. Sullivan has held development positions at School One, the Lincoln School and Bishop Feehan High School, to name a few.
A native Rhode Islander and a graduate of Rhode Island College, Mari-ann lives in Barrington with her family.
The Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra (RIPO) was founded in 1945 and, in 2000 became the first professional orchestra in the United States to successfully merge with a community music school. RIPO&MS is the largest such institution in the United States. In addition, the organization is the largest professional orchestra in the United States to focus equally on education and performance.
