Oakland University Students to Join Oakland Symphony Orchestra, 2/15

At 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 15, five of OU's most promising music students will perform with the Oakland Symphony Orchestra (OSO) in the 18th Annual David Daniels Young Artists Concert. They are the winners of the 2014-2015 Oakland University Concerto Competition.

Associate Professor Gregory Cunningham, who is one of the competition's judges and the conductor of the OSO said, "The concerto competition is always fiercely contested and all of this year's finalists demonstrated great maturity, poise and artistry."

The program will include: Hannah Bossner (piano) Piano Concerto No. 1 in g minor, op. 25 - Mendelssohn; Molly Bruner (soprano) "Lady with a Hand Mirror Aria" from A Postcard from Morocco - Argento; Mark Hosseini (bass) "The Trumpet Shall Sound" from The Messiah - Handel; Heather Neuenschwander (flute) Concerto for Flute and Orchestra - Ibert; and Alyssa Primeau (flute) Carmen Fantasie - Borne.

The OSO, Oakland University's orchestra-in-residence, will also perform Cockaigne (In London Town), op. 40 by Edward Elgar and Suite from The Firebird (1919) by Igor Stravinsky.

The concert will be performed in Varner Recital Hall on the campus of Oakland University. Maps of the campus are available at oakland.edu/map or by searching for "Varner Hall" on a smart phone. Ample free parking will be available.

Tickets are $20 general, $10 students. Tickets can be purchased in advance without service fees at startickets.com or by phone at (800) 585-3737. They can also be purchased at the Center for Student Activities Service Window in the Oakland Center or at the Varner Hall Box Office.
