Music Mountain, America's Oldest Continuing Summer Chamber Music Festival, continues its 86th anniversary season tonight, September 19 (6:30pm) with Jive By Five performing the final concert of the popular Saturday Evening Twilight series. The music continues on tomorrow, September 20 (3PM) with Borromeo String Quartet performing Bach, Beethoven, and Shostakovich. Music lovers have one week remaining of Music Mountain's extended summer season! Concerts are scheduled to play thru September 27!
Dust off your dancing shoes for Jive By Five! The jazz series concludes on Saturday evening with this hard-driving Connecticut favorite playing the sizzling dance music of the Jazz Age. From the Charleston to the Two Step & the Fox Trot, this jazz-loving, rhythmic trio, led by the charming drummer Robert Parker, is sure to get audiences on their feet! The remarkable and captivating Borromeo String Quartet come to Gordon Hall on Sunday afternoon. Sunday afternoon's concert will feature Bach: Fugue in C# Minor from the Well Tempered Klavier, Book 1, BWV 849 - a Music Mountain premiere! Plus Shostakovich: String Quartet No. 12 in D-Flat Major, Op. 133; and Beethoven: String Quartet in B-Flat Major, Opus 130/133. The visionary performances of the Borromeo String Quartet have established them as one of the most important string quartets of our time. Now celebrating their 25th anniversary, the Borromeo have performed a vast repertoire worldwide and collaborated with many of today's great composers and performers. Audiences and critics alike have championed the Borromeo's ability to bring back the contemporary fire to often-heard repertoire, while making even the most challenging new music approachable. Highlights of their 2014-15 season include concerts at Carnegie Hall, the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, the Terra di Siena Chamber Music Festival in Tuscany, and a tour of China with stops in Beijing, Xi'an, and Tianjin. They are the faculty ensemble-in-residence at the New England Conservatory of Music.
