Max Lifchitz & Annabella Gonzalez Collaborate for CAMINO, 3/21-22
Choreographer Annabella Gonzalez and composer Max Lifchitz - 2 Mexican-born artists long time New York residents - collaborate in a special program of music and dance to be held this coming Friday and Saturday, March 21-22, at the Manhattan Movement & Art Center (248 West 60th St) in New York City.
The strong Latin flavor evident in the works of Annabella González is the result of the mixture of elements derived from the classical tradition and from the folk dances of her native country.
Annabella Gonzalez's new work for three dancers was inspired by Max Lifchitz's Ethnic Mosaic -- the work for flute, bassoon & piano written in 1978. Gonzalez's choregraphy employs movements often found in various Mexican folk dances. However, these folk-derived gestures are transformed and set in a quintessentially post-modern environment.
The program will also include other works such as Path with music by American composer Peter Sivalia, Tableau, with music by Polish composer Elzbieta Sikora, and Joggornot -- a parody of Central Park joggers -- that employs music by the French Baroque composer Elisabeth Jaquet de la Guerre.
