Austrian conductor Manfred Honeck makes his Walt Disney Concert Hall debut leading the Los Angeles Philharmonic and violinist Frank Peter Zimmermann in an all-Dvorák program, Thursday, November 21, at 8 pm, Friday, November 22, at 11 am, and Saturday, November 23, at 2 pm.

Zimmermann's performance of Dvorák's Violin Concerto has been described by The New York Times as "...exceptional...There was electricity in his sound...You felt the physicality of his performance." In February 2013, Honeck made his successful debut with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the direct result of which was a CD recording with Anne-Sophie Mutter (including the Dvorák Violin Concerto for DG).The program also features the composer's Carnival Overture and Symphony No. 8.

Manfred Honeck has served as Music Director of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra since the 2008/2009 season. After two extensions, his contract now runs until the end of the 2019/2020 season. The Orchestra's latest recording comprises works by Richard Strauss and was released by Reference Recordings in November 2013. Maestro Honeck's successful work in Pittsburgh is also captured on CD by the Japanese label Exton. So far, Mahler's Symphonies Nos. 1, 3, 4 and 5, Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 and Richard Strauss' Ein Heldenleben have been released to critical acclaim. The recording of Mahler's Symphony No. 4 has won an ICMA 2012 Award. Since 2010, Honeck and his orchestra's annual tour performances have led them to numerous European music capitals and major music festivals. The 2012 tour focused on a week-long residency at the Vienna Musikverein. In August and September 2013, concerts took place in Grafenegg, Berlin, Bucharest, Paris, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Lucerne and Bonn. As a guest conductor Honeck has worked with leading international and U.S. orchestras. He is also a regular guest at the Verbier Festival. This season he returns to Bamberg, New York, Los Angeles, Boston and Rome, among others, and makes his debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra.

Frank Peter Zimmermann began the 2013/14 season with performances of the Brahms Violin Concerto with the Tonhalle Orchestra Zürich under David Zinman, the London Symphony Orchestra under Nikolaj Znaider and the BBC Symphony Orchestra under Josep Pons. As "artist-in-residence" of the Tonhalle Orchestra Zürich he will give a series of concerts throughout the season with conductors David Zinman and Christoph von Dohnányi, as well as giving a recital with Enrico Pace and a concert with his Trio Zimmermann. Other highlights include appearances with the Berlin Philharmonic under Claudio Abbado, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra under Mariss Jansons, the NHK Symphony and Staatskapelle Dresden, both under Herbert Blomstedt, the Czech Philharmonic under Ji?í B?lohlávek and the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig under Jukka-Pekka Saraste. He will also be undertaking two European tours with the Trio Zimmermann and give a series of recitals with Enrico Pace in Europe and Japan. Over the years Zimmermann has built an impressive discography for EMI Classics, Sony Classical, BIS, Ondine, Teldec Classics and ECM Records. In May 2013, BIS released his highly praised recording of the Hindemith Violin Concerto (1939), which he performs with the hr-Sinfonieorchester under Paavo Järvi, and of four sonatas by the same composer (three of which are with pianist Enrico Pace).
