LA Philharmonic to Launch TSFY Concert Series with IMMORTAL BEETHOVEN, 10/3

Los Angeles, September 29, 2015 -The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association kicks off the 2015/16 Toyota Symphonies for Youth (TSFY) concert series at Walt Disney Concert Hall on Saturday, October 3, andSaturday, October 10, at 11 a.m., with two performances of Immortal Beethoven: Ludwig's Legacy -which is part of the LA Phil's Immortal Beethoven festival. The TSFY performances of Immortal Beethoven: Ludwig's Legacy introduce families to Beethoven's beloved works, where they will discover his passionate determination to create, and how his drive continues to inspire musicians across the globe. These concerts will feature the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela and will be preceded by a choice of art workshops, dance, and more.

The Toyota Symphonies for Youth series features four pairs of concerts created especially for children age five to eleven and their families. These multi-disciplinary concerts showcase the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and introduce the world of classical music to children through imaginative and original storytelling in a theatrical setting. Before every concert, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Walt Disney Concert Hall becomes a musical playground with hands-on art making, musical activities, dance, and storytelling or theater. The instrument petting zoo workshop offers the chance for children to be mentored by the students of YOLA's leadership board on how to properly hold orchestral instruments. Workshops take place in the lobby spaces one hour prior to the performance.

The TSFY series continues on Saturday, November 21, and Saturday, December 5, 2016 with The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra,which introduces audiences to English composer Benjamin Britten's most loved works.

On Saturday, January 23, and Saturday, January 30, 2016, the LA Phil explores French Masterworks of the 20th and 21st century as they perform City of Light: A Musical Tour de France. This program tours the rich orchestral music of France in part of the LA Phil's French Festival celebration.

The 2015/16 TSFY series concludes on Saturday, April 9 and Saturday, April 16, 2016, with Spirit of the Cello, which highlights the poignant relationship between a cellist and his instrument as they explore the cello's role through works of Handel, Haydn, and Mendelssohn.
