Family Music Day at The DiMenna Center Set for 10/25

By:

Orchestra of St. Luke's (OSL) invites children, parents, and guardians to Family Music Day on Sunday, October 25 from 10:30AM - 12:30PM. The event will take place at the orchestra's home, The DiMenna Center for Classical Music, in the Hell's Kitchen / Hudson Yards neighborhood. Family Music Day is presented as part of the orchestra's OSL@DMC series, which offers free, interactive classical music events for the community.

The morning begins with a performance by members of OSL designed especially for children, featuring an arrangement of Strauss' Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks-a chamber ensemble version known as Till Eulenspiegel with a Twist. This colorful music depicts the adventures of a mischievous folklore character. The musicians will make the performance an exciting experience for young listeners, explaining the unique characteristics of their instruments, pointing out what to listen for in the music, and inviting participation throughout. The performance will be followed by a special showcase by the young musicians of Youth Orchestra of St. Luke's (YOSL).

Children and families will then be invited to try out string and woodwind instruments with the help of YOSL teaching artists, participate in a music composition activity, join in a music-themed coloring project; and win giveaways with a spin on OSL's prize wheel.

This will be OSL's fourth Family Music Day; each event has been a great success, with a blend of fun and learning that appeals to both children and adults. This hands-on afternoon is a perfect way to introduce young people to music in a relaxed, family-friendly environment-at no cost.

The activities at Family Music Day are perfect for children ages four and older. Reservations are recommended as space is limited; to RSVP, please visit OSLmusic.org/family-day.
