The Brevard Music Center will bring its 2013 summer festival to a close August 2 - 4 with outstanding performances and the season finale.

On Friday, August 2, at 7:30 p.m., Keith Lockhart will lead the Brevard Concert Orchestra in a performance featuring the music of Vaughan Williams and Tchaikovsky. The concert's first half will feature one of Vaughan Williams' most popular works, his English Folk Song Suite, followed by Charles Villarrubia presenting a rare performance of Vaughan Williams' Tuba Concerto. After Intermission, Lockhart will lead the orchestra in a performance of Tchaikovsky's thundering Fifth Symphony.
On Saturday, August 3, at 7:30 p.m., Ken Lam will lead the Brevard Sinfonia in Walton and Ravel featuring Ravel's Alborada del gracioso and William Walton's Symphony No. 1. The concert will also feature pianist Norman Krieger performing Gershwin's beloved Rhapsody in Blue.

Sunday, August 4, at 3:00 p.m. Keith Lockhart and the Brevard Music Center Orchestra bring the 2013 season to an exciting finale with special guest, internationally renowned cellist Johannes Moser performing Elgar's elegiac cello concerto. The concert will close with Holst's beloved suite for large orchestra, The Planets, as the center celebrates the end of another summer of outstanding music.

The Music Center's Janiec Opera Company also draws its season to a close this weekend on Thursday, August 1, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, August 3, at 2:00 p.m. Baritone Reginal Smith, Jr. returns to the Brevard Music Center stage to perform the title role in Giuseppe Verdi's comic opera Falstaff. Based on scenes from two Shakespeare plays, the opera recounts the adventures of the cowardly knight as he attempts to connive his way into the hearts of two wealthy, married women.

All orchestral performances are in Whittington-Pfohl Auditorium, an open air amphitheater on the Brevard Music Center's 180-acre campus. Falstaff will be performed in Scott Concert Hall in the Porter Center on the campus of Brevard College.
