Boston, MA (For Release 2.2.15) - Known as the nation's foremost label launched by an orchestra and devoted exclusively to new music, BMOP/sound today announced the February 3rd release of Irving Fine: Complete Orchestral Works, a landmark recording of six eclectic compositions for orchestra spanning Irving Fine's wide-ranging career.

Celebrating Fine's (1914-1962) centennial, BMOP honors the life, legacy and music of one of the 20th century's most creative and individual composers in the American neoclassical tradition. This disc follows the progression of Fine's unique, diverse aesthetic, demonstrating a mastery of not only neoclassicism and serialism, but polyphony, rhythmic force, and symphonic form.

This recording joins a series of celebrations commemorating the 100th anniversary of Fine's birth. The Irving Fine Society, directed and founded by Nicholas Alexander Brown, who also serves as music specialist/concert producer at the Library of Congress, is happy to see BMOP address the music of the mid-century "Boston School." "We are thrilled and grateful that BMOP is continuing to advance Fine's unique vision for American music," says Brown.

From the marching song Blue Towers and the whimsical miniature Diversions, to spirited pieces Toccata Concertante, Notturno for Strings and Harp, and Serious Song: A Lament for String Orchestra, Fine's orchestral music confirms his leading role in America's music history. The album culminates in Fine's Symphony (1962)- his last and most ambitious work, and his magnum opus. At its recent BMOP performance, The Boston Globe described the Symphony as standing the test of time as "one of the very best American symphonies." According to The New York Times, Fine's orchestral music is comprised of "magisterial, exquisite compositions whose absence from the concert hall is a minor injustice."
