ASO Selects Tenor Russell Thomas as 2014-15 Artist-in-Residence

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) today announced a new Artist-In-Residence program, which will begin with this week's "Christmas with the ASO" concerts and continue throughout the remainder of the Orchestra's 2014-15 season. Tenor Russell Thomas -an internationally-recognized vocalist who has performed with the Metropolitan Opera and the Deutsche Oper Berlin, among others- will serve as the ASO's 2014-15 Artist-in-Residence. Mr. Thomas' residency is a one-year appointment that will conclude at the end of the ASO's 2014-15 season and marks the beginning of an annual Artist-In-Residence program at the ASO.

In this role, Mr. Thomas will act as a community advocate for the ASO through a combination of concerts, recitals, master classes and other education and community engagement events throughout the year, including:

  • December 11, 8:00 p.m., and Dec. 13, 2:00 p.m. & 8:00 p.m., 2014: Performance with Atlanta Symphony Orchestra
    • Mr. Thomas will perform as soloist for the Orchestra's performances of "Christmas with the ASO." (more)
    • Atlanta Symphony Hall, Woodruff Arts Center
  • January 11, 2015, 3:00 p.m.: Recital
    • Mr. Thomas will perform in recital with pianist Dr. Kyung-mi Kim.
    • Porter Sanford III Performing Arts Center - Decatur, GA
  • February 7, 2015, 3:00 p.m.: Recital
    • Mr. Thomas will perform in recital with members of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra
    • Ebenezer Baptist Church - Atlanta, GA
  • April 19, 2015, 3:00 p.m.: Recital
    • Mr. Thomas will perform in recital with members of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Morehouse College Glee Club.
    • Morehouse College, Ray Charles Performing Arts Center

Additional education and outreach events of the residency will be announced.
