New Book Explores 'Lake Ronkonkoma in History and Legend, The Princess Curse and Other Stories: A Lifeguard's View'

In his new book, "Lake Ronkonkoma in History and Legend, The Princess Curse and Other Stories: A Lifeguard's View" (published by AuthorHouse), author David S. Igneri discusses the history and the folklore of Long Island's largest lake, building a strong case for the Princess legend.

Igneri consulted paranormal experts while researching the book, and he discovered that the field generally believes that curses are real, not superstition. His research centered on a bizarre and tragic phenomenon. Igneri says that a young male has drowned nearly every year at Lake Ronkonkoma, although few females have died in the lake.

As a lifeguard at the lake for many years, Igneri received very specific training to save lives, and he heard many stories about the Princess curse, but he chalked it up to superstition. Over time, he began to rethink his views. Gradually, he came to believe that some force or entity had a hand in the many deaths.

Igneri began to change his policies at Lake Ronkonkoma on July 5, 1965. He believes that the spirits told him what to do. His goal became to protect and save all of the people, all of the time, and stop the legend.

About the Author
David S. Igneri was born in New York and raised in Patchogue, N.Y., on Long Island. He holds a bachelor's degree in education from Brockport State University, and he taught in the public school system for 30 years. Igneri also earned a number of graduate degrees, and he received his Ph.D. in colonial American history from the Union Institute. He taught American and European history as an adjunct professor at Dowling College and Long Island University for several years, and he taught American history at Briarcliffe College for a year. He was head lifeguard at Lake Ronkonkoma on Long Island for 32 summers. The father of two children, Igneri lives in Patchogue, N.Y., with his wife, Elizabeth. "Lake Ronkonkoma in History and Legend, The Princess Curse and Other Stories: A Lifeguard's View" is his third history book, and his fifth book.
