"Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards," said Soren Kierkegaard, the Danish theologian, poet and social critic considered to be the first existential philosopher. Author B. Mazzie has lived her life to the fullest, with all its ups and downs. Now she looks back and reexamines a life well lived in order to share about proper family communication and other profound life-changing lessons she has learned along the way. She debuts into the publishing world with her newly published memoir, titled "From Darkness to Light."

Her book recounts a small piece of history in the life of a girl born in 1953. Mazzie was raised by her grandmother. Back in those days, there were things they could not ask, which means there were things they did not know. People said they simply learn from their mistakes. That is exactly what Mazzie experienced for most of her growing up years; she grew up groping her way through life and often misunderstood.

Mazzie, however, believed that there are a lot of things that could have been avoided through proper family communication, which involves active and attentive sharing and listening to one another within the family. Without such communication, a child could feel like he or she is not loved by the family. This will cause one to go through life with blinders on, although Mazzie now understands that, sometimes, love does prevail.

A simple narrative laden with profound insights and reflections, "From Darkness to Light" is a story that will touch readers' hearts in that old familial way. Mazzie has openly shared her real life story to tell families that the need to be heard is something very fundamental, most especially in children. Therefore, she encourages parents to always take the time to listen to children and to trust in them.
