The Summer Solo Series Concludes Season With THAT DOROTHY PARKER 8/5

The Summer Solos Series (Scott Morfee and Darren Lee Cole, producers), a celebration of the best in solo performance and shows by acclaimed playwrights and performers, concludes its inaugural season with one-night only performances of 9 Parts of Desire: In Concert, written and performed by Heather Raffo with music by Amir ElSaffar on Thursday, July 30, 2009, followed by Underneath The Lintel by Glen Berger on Tuesday, August 4, 2009, and concluding the season with That Dorothy Parker by Carol Lempert on Wednesday, August 5, 2009. All performances begin at 8:00 p.m. Immediately following each performance there will be a brief reception with the artist in the Huron Club, located inside the Soho Playhouse.

Scott Morfee stated, "This series has been a great success, and has raised money and awareness for the Spalding Gray Award Fund." He went on to add, "I am in talks with artists and authors about a second series in 2010."

Heather Raffo, author and actress of the award-winning one-woman show 9 Parts of Desire, teams up with accomplished jazz trumpeter and Iraqi santoor player Amir ElSaffar for In Concert: The Sounds of Desire, a dramatic evening of spoken word and melodic solos. Using characters from 9 Parts of Desire, described by the New Yorker as 'an example of how art can remake the world', together they present a concert of urban and classical sounds that spring from both their Iraqi and American roots

Underneath the Lintel is a play written and performed by Glen Berger that premièred Off-Broadway in 2001 and ran for 400 performances. The sole character-the Librarian-embarks on a quest to find out who anonymously returned a library book that is 113 years overdue. A clue scribbled in the margin of the book and an unclaimed dry-cleaning ticket then take him on a mysterious adventure that spans the globe and the ages. He is currently working with Julie Taymor on the book for the upcoming Broadway musical, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark slated to begin performances in early 2010.

That Dorothy Parker by Carol Lempert is a solo show that weaves together hilarious anecdotes of the ten years Mrs. Parker spent lunching at New York's famed Algonquin Round Table, her involvement in the Spanish Civil war and selections of her writing.
