'The Blue Bird' Begins Holiday Flight at Urban Stages 12/14

Urban Stages is pleased to announce the World Premiere of their latest holiday show, The Blue Bird, written by Stanton Wood and Lori Ann Laster. Performances will be at 259 West 30th Street (between 7th and 8th) and will begin on Friday, December 14, continuing through Sunday, January 13.  Press is invited beginning on Friday, December 14.

"A mysterious visitor on Christmas Eve leads a materialistic city girl named Martha on a fantastical journey in search of the 'blue bird of happiness' in this multimedia musical extravaganza based on Maurice Maeterlinck's play.  Armed with a magic hat that reveals the 'true nature' of things and accompanied by her household pets, Martha's journey of exploration features innovative scenic design by world famous Russian artist Andrey Bartenev and music by composer Colm Clark," explain press notes.

Rounding out the design team are Alex Koch (video), Josh Bradford (lighting), and David Thomas (sound). Heath Cullens will direct. Urban Stages is the recipient of a special grant from TCG for this production. Urban Stages' mission is to discover and develop new plays by authors of diverse cultural backgrounds.  Their most recent productions were the critically acclaimed Marion Bridge by Daniel MacIvor, Bulrusher by Eisa Davis (Pulitzer Prize Finalist) and The Oxford Roof Climber's Rebellion by Stephen Massicotte.

The schedule for The Blue Bird will be as follows: December 14 at 7PM; December 15 at 2PM & 7PM; December 16 at 2PM; December 21 at 2PM & 7PM; December 22 at 1PM, 4PM & 7PM; December 23 at 1PM & 4PM; December 26 at 1PM & 4PM; December 27 at 1PM & 7PM; December 28 at 1PM & 7PM; December 29 at 1PM, 4PM & 7PM; December at 1pm & 4PM; January 2 at 2PM; January 3 at 2PM & 7PM; January 4 at 2PM & 7PM; January 5 at 2PM & 7PM; January 6 at 1PM & 4PM; January 11 at 7PM; January 12 at 2PM & 7PM; and January 13 at 1PM.

Tickets will be $40, or $25 per ticket for a Family Pack of four tickets or more. Tickets may be purchased
