ROCK AROUND THE CLOCK to Make World Premiere at The Glitch

Award-winning playwright and actor Nathaniel Brimmer-Beller will premiere his latest play, Rock Around the Clock, at The Glitch this June. Directed by Mimi Harlow Robinson and presented by Black Bat Productions, the production stars Carlotta Banat alongside Nathaniel Brimmer-Beller, with dramaturgy and design by Kristen Misthopoulos, and the participation of Phoebe Rowell John, Associate Director of Black Bat Productions. Performances will run 6 & 27 June, 2026.

Set in a near-future Britain where medically assisted dying has recently become legal, Rock Around the Clock follows Dr. Nina Hiller, one of the country's leading providers of Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID), as she prepares to oversee the death of Max Copeland, a young man living with an aggressive form of cancer that threatens both his body and memory. When Nina unexpectedly hesitates at the final moment, a deeply personal history between doctor and patient begins to emerge, forcing both to confront questions of love, responsibility and autonomy. Moving between intimate romance, dark humour and philosophical debate, the play explores what happens when our desire for certainty collides with the unpredictability of being human.

The production continues Brimmer-Beller's interest in politically resonant and morally complex storytelling. Founder of Black Bat Productions, Brimmer-Beller is a published playwright, award-winning performer, and director whose work has received critical acclaim across the UK and at the Edinburgh Fringe. His plays include In Everglade Studio, Port City Signature, Press, Pretty Rough Terrain, Blood Red Apples & Deep Gold Honey, Chagos 1971, and The Time Has Passed. His writing has been recognised through nominations for the George Devine Award, Offie Awards, and the BBC Writersroom Popcorn Award, and publication by Methuen Drama/Bloomsbury Publishing. Most recently, he appeared as Albert Taft in Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and as Remo in Black Bat's acclaimed sold-out run of The Time Has Passed this May.

Direction is by Mimi Harlow Robinson, an American actor, writer and theatre-maker whose recent work includes the solo play How Can a Body Withstand This? and the screenplay Chalk or Fire. Her work frequently engages with contemporary political questions, from reproductive rights and abortion access to cultural memory, extremism and political polarization, placing intimate relationships at the centre of larger social debates. Robinson and Brimmer-Beller have previously collaborated through creative development and research processes, with Rock Around The Clock marking their first full production together.
