Katie Mitchell's split-screen production streams on Royal Ballet and Opera Stream.

The Royal Opera House has shared a new video featuring soprano Diana Damrau alongside tenor Charles Castronovo and baritone Ludovic Tézier in a full recording of LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR, offering audiences a chance to experience one of the company's most celebrated recent productions of the Donizetti tragedy.

LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR draws its story from Walter Scott's novel The Bride of Lammermoor, adapted for the operatic stage by librettist Salvadore Cammarano. The opera, which had its world premiere in Naples on 26 September 1835, follows Lucia as she is caught between a bitter family feud and the manipulations of the men around her, ultimately forced into a marriage against her will with devastating consequences. Donizetti's score is widely regarded as among his finest, combining lyrical beauty with a dramatic intensity that secured the work's place in the international repertory within years of its debut.

Director Katie Mitchell created this production for The Royal Opera in 2015, presenting Lucia as a fiercely independent woman actively resisting her brother's schemes rather than a passive victim of circumstance. Designer Vicki Mortimer's split-screen set gives the staging a striking visual architecture, allowing the opera's tragic momentum to unfold with particular precision across the Covent Garden stage.

The Royal Opera House has been active in bringing its productions to wider audiences in recent months. BroadwayWorld previously covered the company's release of a clip from its current staging of MADAMA BUTTERFLY, featuring the celebrated Flower Duet from Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier's production.
