Adelaide Youth Orchestra's Maestro Series 1: New World Order Concert Set for 3/30

By:

The 80-piece Adelaide Youth Orchestra will launch its 2014 Maestro Series in grand style at Elder Hall on Sunday March 30 with Maestro Series 1: New World Order, a very special concert featuring three stunning and diverse works, including Dvo?ák's much loved American symphony, Symphony No 9 From the New World.

The Maestro concert series has proven a popular showcase for the talents of the 80 musicians aged 12 to 24 who comprise the Adelaide Youth Orchestra. It also provides outstanding young South Australian musicians who aspire to performing careers with invaluable experience as soloists.

"Each year eligible young South Australian musicians under the age of 25 interested in performing a concerto with the Adelaide Youth Orchestra, are invited to apply to audition for one of three spots available in the following season," says AdYO's Artistic Director and conductor of the Adelaide Youth Orchestra, Associate Professor Keith Crellin OAM. "From last year's concerto audition process, 13 year old violinist Tianyou Ma was chosen to perform as a soloist at the Maestro Series 1 concert. He'll take on Saint-Saëns' virtuosic Violin Concerto No 3, accompanied by the Adelaide Youth Orchestra."

This will be the second time Tianyou has performed as a soloist with the Adelaide Youth Orchestra, having made his concerto debut as an 11 year old in 2012, again through the concerto audition process. Born in Shenzin in China, Tianyou grew up in a musical family. Both his father and his grandfather were accomplished violinists and Tianyou began playing the violin when he was three.

"On his arrival in Adelaide in 2010 Tianyou successfully auditioned for a place in the Adelaide Youth Orchestra and he's been a valued member ever since," says Associate Professor Crellin. "He has his sights set on becoming an international soloist and chamber music musician and these concerto experiences are important stepping stones in any young soloist's career."

Rounding out the Maestro Series 1 New World Order program will be Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man, a homage to all men serving in World War II.
