Jane Eyre is a haunting retelling of the Charlotte Bronte classic about an orphan girl who grows up to become the governess of Thornfield Hall. There she meets and falls in love with the enigmatic Edward Rochester, an Earl with a dark secret. Having overcome the obstacles brought on by an abusive childhood, the death of a childhood friend and the prejudice inherent in a relationship between two people socially worlds apart, Jane marries Rochester. Her wedding day is marred when she discovers his secret: he already has a wife, a half-crazed lunatic hidden in the attic.

A special benefit reading of Stan Richardson's Veritas, for Lambda Legal, starring Tate Ellington (Broadway: The Philanthropist; Film: Remember Me), Mitch Dean (Altar Boyz), Matt Steiner (The Acting Company's Jane Eyre) and directed by Ryan J. Davis (White Noise, Broadway Beauty Pageants) will perform on Tuesday, May 25th at 8PM. This performance will include music by Rachel Peters (Stretch [a fantasia]) freely adapted from the Harvard Song Book.

Keenlyside's acclaimed interpretation of Hamlet in Geneva, London and Barcelona finally arrives in the United States, with a performance in the Patrice Caurier and Moshe Leiser production that was hailed by the British press as 'magnificent . . . sheer vocal genius.' Petersen, who steps in for Natalie Dessay, brings her haunting portrayal of Ophélie to the Met; she earned praise for the role during a 2006 run of Hamlet in Düsseldorf. Louis Langrée conducts a cast that includes Jennifer Larmore as Gertrude, Toby Spence in his Met debut as Laërte, and James Morris in the role of Claudius. Jane Archibald, in her Met debut, sings the role of Ophélie on April 5 and 9. The creative team is rounded out by Christian Fenouillat with set designs, Agostino Cavalca with costume designs, and Christophe Forey with lighting designs, all in their Met debuts. The cast has been announced for the reading of Operation Epsilon, a new play by Alan Brody (Housewives of Manheim), directed by Andy Sandberg (Producer of Hair). This developmental reading is being presented by Ellen Berman (Enchanted April), and this presentation is supported by a grant from the Council of the Arts at MIT.
