Review - Revisiting Our Town

I had the immense pleasure of taking another visit to Grover's Corners, New Hampshire last week, via the fascinating David Cromer production of Thornton Wilder's Our Town that opened in February at the Barrow Street Theatre. Back then I wrote that the director's non-traditional take on the play - which remains completely faithful to the author's text and themes - was one of the most exciting theatre events of the season. On second look, with a mixture of new and old cast member, I'd say it's the best theatre production I know of currently playing in New York. (more...)

TheatreWorks USA's HENRY AND MUDGE Comes To Westport Country Playhouse 11/15

Westport Country Playhouse's Family Festivities Series will present "Henry and Mudge," a musical about a boy and his dog based on the best-selling series of books by Cynthia Rylant, on Sunday, November 15, 1 and 4 p.m. Recommended for grades Pre-K through 3, the show is produced by Theatreworks USA. On Monday, September 14th, The National Asian American Theatre Company (NAATCO) will present a one-night-only all Asian-American performance of Terrence McNally's LOVE! VALOUR! COMPASSION!, directed by Alan Muraoka, at the Cherry Lane Theatre (38 Commerce Street) to benefit NAATCO. Joe Mantello, the original director of LOVE! VALOUR! The first Broadway revivals of BRIGHTON BEACH MEMOIRS and BROADWAY BOUND, two of Simon's beloved semi-autobiographical "Eugene Jerome" plays will be directed by David Cromer (Our Town) and will play the beautifully restored Nederlander Theatre (208 West 41st Street). Harner To Replace Cromer In Off-Bdwy's OUR TOWN 8/25, Bennett, Dame, Schultz & Beiler To Join

The producers of the critically acclaimed Off-Broadway production of' Thornton Wilder's Our Town, have announced that Obie Award-winner Jason Butler Harner will assume the central role of 'Stage Manager' in David Cromer's staging of Wilder's timeless play. Beginning Tuesday, August 25th, Mr. Harner will succeed Mr. Cromer who departs the company to begin rehearsals for his Broadway directorial debut this fall with Neil Simon's Brighton Beach Memoirs and Broadway Bound. A Capella Group Tuckermans At 9 Return To Hackmatack Playhouse 6/20

A cappella group Tuckermans at 9 returns to Hackmatack Playhouse, 538 School Street, (Route 9) Berwick, Maine, on Saturday, June 20. The group performs many long-time audience favorites as well as recently added tunes. Tuckermans at 9's original, high-octane arrangement of the Temptations' classic Motown anthem, "I Can't Get Next to You", received praise from judges at the recent 2009 Harmony Sweeps a cappella competition at Tufts University in Massachusetts.
