Chicago Shakespeare & Navy Pier to Construct New Theater Space on Lakefront

Chicago Shakespeare Artistic Director Barbara Gaines, Executive Director Criss Henderson and Board Chair Sheli Z. Rosenberg were joined by Navy Pier, Inc. CEO Marilynn Gardner and Board Chair William J. Brodsky as well as Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel today to announce the creation of an innovative performance venue, The Yard at Chicago Shakespeare. Construction on the theater begins this spring; Chicago Shakespeare plans to stage its first production in The Yard in the 2017-18 Season.

Chicago Gay Men's Chorus is gearing up for its annual presentation of Lipstick & Lyrics: Save the Unicorn Club! This vivacious drag show features 16 of CGMC's most colorful and talented performers and 16 sexy dancers. The premise: A gay bar is in trouble! A bus of drag queens breaks down out front and they must rescue the bar through song and dance. The show is a collaboration between Artistic Director James J. The Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University's Auxiliary Board brings 'Old Chicago' back to the National Historic Landmark Theatre with the fifth annual The Devil's Ball, tonight, Oct. 2 from 7:30 - 11 p.m. The lobby of the iconic Auditorium Theatre is the backdrop for this unique gathering for its 300 expected guests. Revelers are treated to fabulous food, entertainment, theatre tours and more, as they raise funds and generate awareness for the preservation of the Auditorium Theatre as well as the Auditorium's diverse educational programming.  This year's new addition is a surprise live performance. Tickets are $65 through Today, Sept. 18 at midnight; $75 through Thursday, Oct. 1 at midnight and are available online at  AuditoriumTheatre.org.
