The Duke Ellington Center for the Arts (DECFA), founded in 2004 by noted dancer/choreographer Mercedes Ellington, Duke Ellington's granddaughter, will inaugurate its MOOD ELLINGTON series of special programs focusing on the musical legacy of America's most productive composer of the 20th century, at the Paley Center for Media on Fridays, February 24 and March 24, it was announced by DECFA Board Chairman Michael Dinwiddie. The first program in the series will be hosted by Dr. David Schroeder, Chair of NYU Jazz Programs in New York and Paris, and the second program in the series will be hosted by seven-time Grammy nominated percussionist/drummer/bandleader/educator Bobby Sanabria

Juilliard Dance, under the direction of Lawrence Rhodes, presents New Dances: Edition 2016 featuring four world-premiere dances by choreographers John Heginbotham (First-Year Dancers), Katarzyna Skarpetowska, (Second-Year Dancers), Pam Tanowitz (Third-Year Dancers), and Matthew Neenan (Fourth-Year Dancers). Heginbotham and Skarpetowska are Juilliard alums, and Tanowitz and Neenan are returning as New Dances choreographers.

Mimi Stern-Wolfe's Downtown Music Productions will appear in a revival of Harold Rome's witty satire Pins and Needles, music direction by Stern-Wolfe, stage direction by Larry Marshall, choreography by Mercedes Ellington,Tuesday October 25, 7 PM, at the Howl Gallery, 6 East 1st Street. (All proceeds will go to the Actor's Fund and HOWL Help.) With its critically acclaimed score and lyrics, Pins and Needles, written in 1937, is a unique call for social justice and equity.
