The Huntington Theatre Company will open its 2015-2016 season with the Tony Award-winning musical A Little Night Music, Stephen Sondheim's most romantic and popular work, led by Tony and Olivier nominee Haydn Gwynne, as well as Broadway's Stephen Bogardus and Lauren Molina. Huntington Artistic Director Peter DuBois (after all the terrible things I do; Smart People; Rapture, Blister, Burn; and Becky Shaw) will direct. In its two years on the Boston theatre scene, Bridge Repertory Theater has tackled a wide range of material, from its debut with Harold Pinter's The Lover, to its flirtation with musical theatre in LaChiusa's Hello Again, to its embracing of locally grown and new work with Obehi Janice's FUFU & OREOS. At the end of its second season, the innovative young company faces the final frontier: the classics.

Despite all of its violence and disturbing themes, Director Jim Petosa and company find the humor in ASSASSINS and are able to make the characters come alive as people with flaws, rather than monsters. In the controversial Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman musical, the cure for what ails them is to kill a President and the 1991 show strikes a chord in our gun-happy culture. A terrific lineup of voices handles the Sondheim score with aplomb.

Steven Maler, Founding Artistic Director of Commonwealth Shakespeare Company and Associate Artistic Director, Adam Sanders, will direct with Boston Landmark Orchestra's Music Director Christopher Wilkins, conducting. The free event will be held tonight, August 21st at 7:00PM at DCR's Hatch Shell on the Esplanade.

THESE SHINING LIVES tells the important story of a 1928 groundbreaking case which established legal precedents for labor safety standards still in effect decades later. Five factory workers, dubbed the 'Radium Girls,' sued their employer after contracting life-threatening radium poisoning while painting watch dials with the glow-in-the-dark substance. Playwright Melanie Marnich focuses on four of the thousands of women who entered the work force for the first time in the 1920s, rejoicing in the opportunity to make money before finding their lives forever changed by unanticipated camaraderie and unforeseen deleterious effects.

In the 1920s and early 1930s, female factory workers, later known as radium girls, contracted radium poisoning from painting watch dials with glow-in-the-dark paint at the United States Radium Factory in Ottawa, Illinois. The women, who had been told the paint was harmless, ingested deadly amounts of radium by licking their paintbrushes to give them a fine point. Five of the workers challenged their employer in a landmark case that travelled to the US Supreme Court and established the right of individuals who contracted 'occupational diseases' to sue their employers.
