'Make Music New York' Returns With Free Concerts 6/21
by Charlie Piane - Jun 14, 2010

Make Music New York, described by city officials as "one of the largest musical events in the city's history," is back for a fourth year of free concerts in public spaces throughout the five boroughs of New York City, all on the first day of summer. On Monday, June 21, from 10 in the morning until 10 at night, musicians of all ages and musical persuasions - from Hip-hop to opera, Latin jazz to punk rock - will perform on streets, sidewalks, stoops, plazas, cemeteries, parks and gardens. Alex Ross of The New Yorker called last year's installment "impressive - more than 800 events across five boroughs. Subversive…musical disruptions invite urban dwellers to abandon their tight routines and let the rhythms of the city take over."

Reddy or Not
by Michael Dale - Aug 18, 2004

When cabaret singers start telling long, involved, heartfelt stories about how a certain pop song on the radio deeply affected their lives I usually take that as a signal to start jiggling the ice in my empty drink to see if I can come up with another strawful of water. Unless, of course, the singers in question are Joanna Parson and Lance Werth, and the voice on the radio is the Queen of Easy Listening, one Helen Reddy.
