Pianist Ben Rosenblum will present unique solo piano programs each Tuesday in April at The Kitano, (66 Park Ave, no cover, $15 min food/drink charge), including: selected standards and originals (April 4), selections from unusual inspirations/sources (April 11); special guests (April 18); and selections from his debut album (April 25). Ben's music has earned numerous awards, including the ASCAP Young Jazz Composers Award and several Downbeat Student Music Awards (best original composition and best original arrangement), and has been described as "mature beyond his years." Sitar player and composer Anoushka Shankar has garnered five Grammy Award-nominations and the title 'Asian Hero' by Time magazine. She studied sitar under her father and guru, the late Ravi Shankar, making her professional classical debut at the age of 13. With 11 recordings to her credit (including Traces of You, which features Anoushka's half-sister Norah Jones, and Home, from which her Folsom program will be culled), 'her exquisite sitar playing...lives up to the virtuosity that made her the youngest woman ever nominated for a World Music Grammy' (Harper's Bazaar).

The Chan Centre for the Performing Arts at the University of British Columbia (UBC) presents the Canadian premiere of Anda Union, the renowned folk group hailing from regions across Inner Mongolia, March 26 at 8pm in the Chan Shun Concert Hall. The nine-member ensemble will captivate with a transcendent fusion of ancient sounds created through haunting throat singing and music performed on such rare instruments as the horse head fiddle and two-stringed lute.
John Patitucci Teams Up with Daedalus Quartet in Philadelphia

LiveConnections continues their exciting season of string innovations on Tuesday, April 18 when legendary bassist John Patitucci teams up with the acclaimed Daedalus Quartet, currently in-residence at the University of Pennsylvania, for a one-night concert that will cross a wide variety of genres. Commissioned by LiveConnections, Patitucci will be writing new music for string quintet (the Quartet plus himself), as part of a program fusing jazz and classical styles. The 7:30PM show will take place at Philadelphia's World Cafe Live (3025 Walnut Street).
