The works of Jane Austen have been read and adapted for almost two hundred years, but no adaptation has been more popular or illuminating than the recent translation to the stage of Pride and Prejudice by Joseph Hanreddy and J.R. Sullivan. This version captures Austen's cleverness and fervor in the telling of this witty, elegant, sharply observed and richly rendered love story. Even the most cynical among us have trouble resisting this story's most satisfying resolution.

Jane Austen's Emma - A Musical Romantic Comedy with music, lyrics and book by Tony Award nominee Paul Gordon will close the Winter Season on February 27, 2011. Directed by Tony Award nominee Jeff Calhoun.

Opera San José presents Puccini's timeless classic La bohème. A story of young love set against the impoverished but joyous lifestyle of 19th-century bohemian Paris, La bohème is Puccini's most beloved opera and for many the quintessential opera. Eight performances are scheduled from April 23 through May 8 at the California Theatre, 345 South First Street in downtown San José.

This spring Arizona Theatre Company journeys to the New York boroughs and into Neil Simon's masterwork, LOST IN YONKERS, the fourth installment of ATC's AMERICA PLAYS! Celebrating Great American Stories series. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize and the Tony Award for Best Play, LOST IN YONKERS is as funny as it is poignant and is certain to leave you spellbound with laughter and tears. Featuring Tony Award-winner and Arizona favorite Judy Kaye, and directed by Samantha K. Wyer, LOST IN YONKERS plays in Tucson at the Temple of Music and Art from February 26 through March 19, 2011. Directed by Orlando Shakes Artistic Director Jim Helsinger, Beowulf features actor/writer Charlie Bethel in a one-hour solo performance that is both a faithful adaptation and utterly accessible for those who slept through Medieval Lit. Based on the classic monster tale and morality poem, the intrepid hero, Beowulf, travels across the sea to save a kingdom from Grendel, an evil, man-eating monster, and its equally demonic mother, only to die in battle with an avaricious dragon.

Kicking off its 20th Anniversary, Deaf West Theatre puts its own, unique spin on the classic story of a mischievous puppet who wishes to become a real, live boy. Using a mix of deaf and hearing actors, Stephen Rothman directs The Adventures of Pinocchio, a commedia dell arte adaptation of Carlo Collodi's 1883 novel by Lee Hall that brims with clever political subtext and sly social commentary. Deaf West's retelling of Pinocchio's treacherous journey through childhood opens February 25 at Deaf West Theatre in North Hollywood's NoHo Arts District, with two low-priced previews on February 17 and 18. (The Adventures of Pinocchio is rated 'PG' for mild language and dark themes - recommended for ages 10 and up.)

Lookingglass Theatre Company presents the World Premiere of Ethan Frome, adapted from Edith Wharton's novel and directed by Laura Eason.

Executive Producer Lou Spisto today announced the complete cast and creative team for Ian Bruce's Groundswell, a psychological drama set in South Africa. Directed by Kyle Donnelly, Groundswell will run in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre March 12 - April 17. Preview performances run March 12 - March 16. Victory Gardens continues its 2010/11 Season with the world premiere of The Boys Room by Ensemble Playwright Joel Drake Johnson, directed by Associate Artistic Director Sandy Shinner. The Boys Room marks Shinner and Johnson's sixth collaboration-A Guide For The Perplexed, Four Places, The End of the Tour, Before My Eyes, all at Victory Gardens, and Tranquillity Woods for Steppenwolf's First Look series.
