NON-UNION / No Pay (transportation stipend possible)

Who: Seeking non-union musical theatre performers 16 & up. All roles are open/available.Theatre’s statement: “WPPAC practices non-traditional casting and strongly encourages actors of all ethnicities to audition.”

When: Sunday, October 21 (5-10 pm), Monday, October 22 (5-9 pm) & Wednesday, October 24 (4-6 pm) Audition appointment REQUIRED. Appointment-making instructions below.

Callbacks: Wednesday, October 24 (6-10 pm) Actors will be notified by email if they are expected to return for callbacks. Everyone called back will be expected to sing from the score as necessary and possibly learn a small dance combination.

Rehearsals: Rehearsals will be M-F from 6pm - 10pm and Saturdays from 10am - 4pm beginning in early November. Performers are only called when needed and there will be a small break for Thanksgiving. Rehearsals resume Saturday, November 24.

Performances: December 7, 8, 27, 28, 29, 30

Please Prepare: 32 bars of a pop rock/rock opera musical theatre selection that shows range, style and acting ability. Please bring sheet music in the appropriate key (charts are not acceptable). An accompanist will be provided. Be prepared to dance.

Please bring a picture & resume, stapled back-to-back.

Character Breakdown:

Tommy (18‐25) - A young boy who descends into a catatonic state. (Tenor)
Captain Walker (25‐35) - Tommy's handsome father, a Royal Air Force Captain. Proficient in stage combat. (Tenor)
Mrs. Walker (25‐35) - Tommy's mother (Mezzo)
Young Tommy (Tommy at Age 4) - Seeking short, young males ages 8 - 10 who can play younger
Second Tommy (Tommy at Age 10) - Seeking young males ages 11 - 14 who can play younger with an unchanged voice.
Cousin Kevin (18‐25) - Tommy's cousin who's a bully. He becomes head of Tommy's security force after he's cured. (Baritone)
Uncle Ernie (40‐55) - Tommy's drunk, perverted uncle. He runs Tommy's Holiday Camp. (Tenor)
The Lover (20‐30) - Mrs. Walker's boyfriend, killed by Captain Walker when he returns home from the war. Handsome, muscular and proficient in stage combat.
The Hawker (20‐50) - Leader of a New Age Cult. An unsavory street man.
The Gypsy (25‐35) - the “Acid Queen”, a drug dealer and prostitute. (Alto)
The Specialist (30‐50) - A doctor who has new theories on how to cure Tommy.
The Specialist’s Assistant (20‐30) - an assistant to the specialist.
Sally Simpson (16‐20) - A typical teenage girl obsessed with Tommy. (Soprano)
Local Lads and Lasses (16-25) - Cousin Kevin's friends.

Synopsis: Peter Townshend’s tale of a young boy’s journey from pain to triumph is the most electrifying evening of rock and roll ever to play in a theatre!

After witnessing the accidental murder of his mother's lover by his father, Tommy is traumatized into catatonia, and as the boy grows, he suffers abuse at the hands of his sadistic relatives and neighbors. As an adolescent, he’s discovered to have an uncanny knack for playing pinball, and when his mother finally breaks through his catatonia, he becomes an international pinball superstar.
