CASTING: Minimum 9 actors. All roles open. All ages - late teens to adult.
WHEN: Saturday, January 30th or Sunday January 31st - 2pm to 6pm
Callbacks by invitation scheduled for February 2nd at 7pm.
WHERE: The Brookfield Theatre for the Arts, 184 Whisconier Road, Brookfield, Connecticut (located just behind the Brookfield Library)
REHEARSALS: Scheduled to begin Monday February 29th.
PERFORMANCES: April 28th through May 21st

AUDITION DETAILS:
Please bring a resume, headshot, and a prepared short (60-90 seconds) comedic monologue in the style of the show. Additional sides from the show will be provided.
For vocals - you may choose any song from a musical. Please bring choices - as you may be asked to sing an additional piece from your book/repertoire.
All parts will require some dance. Please be prepared to move and dress accordingly.

THE SHOW: The Fantasticks is a funny and romantic musical about a boy, a girl, two parents - and a wall. The narrator, El Gallo, asks the audience to use their imagination and follow him into a world of moonlight and magic. The boy and girl fall in love, grow apart, and finally find their way back to each other after realizing the truth in El Gallo’s words that “without a hurt, the heart is hollow.” - www.thefantasticksonbroadway.com
The Fantasticks is the longest-running musical in the world, and with good reason: at the heart of its breathtaking poetry and subtle theatrical sophistication is a purity and simplicity that transcends cultural barriers. The result is a timeless fable of love the manages to be nostalgic and universal at the same time.

ROLES:
Narrator (El Gallo) - Male, Baritone
Charismatic, Mysterious, Snarky, Genuine, Darkly Sexy, Androgynous, European, Graceful, Commanding
Girl (Luisa) - Female, Soprano with a strong high C/C6
A Romantic, Entitled, Innocent, Naïve, Bleeding Heart, Dreamer, Loves the concept of Love and being in love but doesn’t understand the reality of love
Boy (Matt) - Male, Baritone/Baritenor
Educated, Hipster, Idealist, Naïve, Entitled, Not street smart, Believes himself to be progressive but behaves contrary, Loves the concept of Love and being in love but doesn’t understand the reality of love.
The following roles are not gender specific:
Boy’s Parent (Hucklebee) & Girl’s Parent (Bellomy) - Think they are cleverer, worldlier, and more knowledgeable than they actually are, obnoxious in the way only parents can be. They are a comedic team, vaudeville in nature, timing is important.
Old Actor - An old hand in a new world, trying to apply old world techniques to new world problems. A relic that doesn’t realize their time is gone. Forgetfulness, that comes with age. Strong sense of comedic timing.
The One Who Dies - An old hand in a new world, but realizes it more than the Old Actor. Relishes the spotlight and believes they can still play roles they aren’t quite suited for, for a various reasons (e.g. age, race, mobility, etc.). Loves to die spectacularly.
The Mutes - A pair of non-speaking characters who serve as unseen extensions of El Gallo, sometimes moving set or props. Interesting and entertaining but not distracting. Must have the ability to stand out while being able to disappear on stage at the same time. Impish and mischievous, perceptive and intelligent.
