SYNPOSIS:

When a woman meets a homeless man she thinks she recognizes, she wonders if his life would have been different had he made different choices. Was he really a hero like he claims to have been? If he wasn't on the streets, where would he be? From these questions, we take a journey through the various universes in which Lyman would have existed, and we learn the truth about how choices affect destiny and what it really means to be a hero. The following roles are available:

OLDER LYMAN—age 45-65, CAUCASIAN. Seeking a versatile actor who sings (any vocal range). This character is extremely wide-ranging, from homeless man to military officer to charismatic evangelical preacher. As the preacher, the actor needs to believably simulate playing the piano. Prepare to show your pantomiming skills and sing “Precious Lord, Take My Hand (tracks to be provided).

LYMAN LIRI—age 20-30, CAUCASIAN. Seeking an actor to play the title role. Lyman is a jazz piano player--a phenom. Although the actor playing Lyman need not know how to play the piano, he must be able to believably simulate playing the piano. For most of the show, the character is seen as a young military man with military-style short hair. Later, this character is a rock and roll star and will lip sync (or sing) “Crocodile Rock” by Elton John. Prepare to lip sync (or sing) this song for the audition and show your piano pantomiming skills (tracks to be provided). Must be willing to engage in a non-romantic, same-sex kiss.

EVE ST. CROIX—age 30-45, CAUCASIAN. Seeking an actress to play a beautiful Russian spy. Must be able to speak with a slight Russian accent and pull off a duplicitous personality. When interacting with the other characters in the scene, she speaks with an American accent and conveys honesty and selflessness. However, during her many soliloquies, she speaks in her native accent and shamelessly flaunts her sardonic wit and arrogance. Must be able to alternate between the two dialects and personalities with ease. (NOTE: This character has two kissings scenes.)

BARRY—age 25-35, AFRICAN-AMERICAN. Seeking an actor to play the long lost son of Anders (Lyman's best friend). He is extremely intelligent and articulate; introspective and analytical. He has been on a lifelong quest to find and meet his father, only to learn that his father died in the war. He has dreams and intends to fulfill them, whatever it takes. He is patriotic and respectful, most of all. A young Barack Obama, if you will.

DONNIE—age 20-30, CAUCASIAN. Seeking an actor to play Lyman's son. This character has endured a lifetime of religion mixed with hypocrisy. Regardless, he is steadfast in his faith. He has seen his father spiritually and physically rise and fall, but his love for him will never die. Mild-mannered and respectful; however, his biting wit and ability to see the humor in things is probably the reason he has sustained for so long.

BERNIE—age 25-35, CAUCASIAN. Seeking an actor to play Lyman's songwriting partner. This character is British and very high-energy. He is Lyman's biggest fan and cohort. They started with nothing and became international superstars. Great comedic timing and self-deprecating humor a must.

YOUNG CAROLYN—age 8-12, CAUCASIAN. Seeking a young actress to play the younger version of Carolyn (Lyman's sister). This character has only a few lines; however, the part requires great dramatic skill. Must be able to cry on stage.

CHILD LYMAN—age 8-12, CAUCASIAN. Seeking a young actor to play the youngest version of Lyman. A knowledge of baseball (pitching) is a plus. Must also be able to believably simulate playing the piano. This character is the victim of his father's abuse, both physical and mental. He is extremely respectful, selfless and determined. Prepare to show your piano pantomiming skills (track to be provided).
