The Grove Theatre announces auditions for IT’S A BIRD...IT’S A PLANE..IT’S SUPERMAN. You’ve heard of SPIDERMAN the Musical? THE GROVE THEATRE in Upland, CA brings you the family Broadway musical IT’S A BIRD...IT’S A PLANE..IT’S SUPERMAN. Recently brought back for a revival in NYC by ENCORES, this “SUPERHERO HIT” recreates all of the sound and fun of the 1960’s. Written by the same composers of BYE BYE BIRDIE, the show is for young and old alike. Family entertainment once again will fly onto The Grove stage April 22 through May 8, 2016, directed by Kristopher Kyer...who directed Peter Pan, Mary Poppins and Disney's The Little Mermaid at The Grove Theatre!! FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT AT ITS FINEST!! IT’S A BIRD … IT’S A PLANE … IT’S SUPERMAN® is the tale of Superman’s efforts to defeat a vengeful scientist, Dr. Abner Sedgwick, who seeks to destroy the world’s symbol of good. Additionally, there is tension between Superman and a columnist for the Daily Planet newspaper because of the superhero’s attraction to Lois Lane.

Clark Kent/Superman (Male) Baritone. LEADING MAN. 25-40 Athletic abilities a plus; Amazing physical actor with strong Baritone voice. Handsome, chiseled .Height 6’ or taller. Actor portrays the classic “cartoon/comic book” character tongue in cheek with conviction. (NOT like the contemporary movie versions). Must be able to go from Meek and mild reporter, to suave superhero in a moment.

Max Mencken (Male) Tenor. Must be good looking, narcissistic, suave and conniving. The Star columnist at the Daily Planet who is out to expose Superman’s true identity. He loathes Superman in every way. Good mover. COMEDY actor would be great. Playing age 25 - 50 or so. Height Any.

Abner Sedgwick (Male) Tenor. 40's-60's The mad scientist. He teams up with Max to fight Superman. Physical comedy role.

Lois Lane (Female) 20’s-30’s Mezzo with upper range. Leading lady with good comedy chops. Height any. Incredible actress/singer. Must be able to hold the stage and has genuine love for Superman.

Reporter at the DAILY PLANET. Sydney (Female) Alto/Mezzo. with good belt. Height any. A few years older than Lois Lane. Good dancer. Max Mencken’s secretary, who is wisecracking and seductive. Sings the hit song “You’ve Got Possibilities” (Linda Lavin played her on Broadway)

Jim Morgan (Male) 30’s. Lyric Baritone. Dr. Sedgwick’s assistant, pleasant young man who is interested in Lois Lane himself. Father Ringling (Male) Baritone. 40’s-60’s. Evil head of the Ringling Family of acrobats who are also criminals.

Doug Ringling (Male) 18-35 Tenor. Acrobatic abilities.

Tai Ringling (Female or Male) 18-35 Character singer with Acrobatic abilities, comedic

Fanny Ringling (Female or Male) 18-35 Character singer with Acrobatic abilities.

Mo Ringling (Female or male) 18-35 Character singer with Acrobatic abilities.

Tam Ringling (Female or male) 18-35 Character singer with Acrobatic abilities.

Perry White (Male) Baritone. 40’s-60’s Editor of the Daily Planet. Actor/singer

ENSEMBLE ROLES. (MALE AND FEMALE) Actors and actresses all ages who move well to play: Citizens of Metropolis (Parents/kids), M.I.T. Students, City Hall Guide, Policemen, Crooks, Suspects, Bank Guard, Tourists, Photographers and Planet Employees, The original Broadway production had a cast of 34, including chorus.
