2 presentations: Monday, 4/11 evening and
Tuesday, 4/12 afternoon.

Breakdown

NOTE: A number of these performers will need to play instruments - please specify in submission note any instruments the performer plays, and, if possible, what their skill level is. All performers should be solid singers - comfortable with varied jazz and swing styles, in addition to a contemporary musical theatre sound. The musical takes place c. 1934-1938; this reading will be book-in-hand. Directed by two-time Emmy-winner/two-time Tony-winner Patricia Birch.

Exact performance times are currently pending, but we anticipate working around existing show schedules - please submit accordingly.

Seeking:

SWEETIE
Half-African-American, half-Caucasian, female, mid-teens to early 20s. Tough but vulnerable, with great charm and humor. Belt and soprano, powerful and passionate singer, range from A below middle C to high G. Please submit performers of any ethnic background who can convincingly portray this bi-racial character.

The following four characters should play one or more of the following instruments: guitar, trumpet, trombone, clarinet, accordion, drums, etc. Please specify instrument and ability level with submission.

ABRAHAM
Any ethnicity, late teens through early 20s. Instantly likable. Would do anything for anybody. Gets a little stuck now and then; his family left him behind because he wasn’t “right.” Baritenor with strong music background. A cappella and harmony experience a major plus. Instrumental ability a must, please specify level of proficiency.

HEDY
Non-white, 18+ to play teens through mid-20s. Great singer, husky belt with versatile vocal skills. Instrumental ability a must, please specify level of proficiency.

THOMAS
African-American or of mixed-parentage, mid-teens through early-twenties. Smart and lovable, orphan; Hedy’s boyfriend. Baritenor with strong music background. Instrumental ability a must, please specify level of proficiency.

MURPHY
African-American, late teens through early 20s , plays guitar/banjo. Baritenor with strong music background. A cappella and harmony experience a major plus. Instrumental ability a must, please specify level of proficiency.
