Seeking:
DEL
Age 16 or 17. She is intelligent, damaged, defended, a survivor – the child of an alcoholic father and an in-denial mother. She gravitates to her father. She is assertive on the surface, fearful of the chaos surrounding her, often provocative in her speech. It’s hard to tell when she is telling the truth, a trick she learned at home.
PETRA
50-55, from Greenwich, her promising husband hasn’t panned out as a provider due to drink. She has a tough relationship with her teenage daughter, but not much worse than most. Her divorce from the protagonist, AUSTIN, is long pending. Terms can’t be agreed, and neither really wants it. She has a harsh, upper crust manner of speaking, but shows physical signs of care for her daughter, and later for her husband.
ANDY
25-35, preferably non-traditional, ie a Latino or an Asian or African American, a now sober rehab counselor and landscaper from Western Massachusetts. A highschool football legend, a known and envied ladykiller at the rehab. He is less educated than the Cassidy family. Like the protagonist but for different reasons, he has not been open to the gay possibilities of life. He is passionate about gardening. Both he and AUSTIN are confused by their dawning attraction.
AUSTIN CASSIDY
Mid-late 50's, a longtime alcoholic, veteran of numerous rehabs. Now finally Sober, he longs to reunite with his wife and daughter. But he also - sober - falls in love with a young man. A product of a homophobic family his distress is acute.
MARTIN CASSIDY
Younger brother of Austin, early to mid-50's, successful finance guy, and longtime secret lover of his brother's wife. A sleek sexy cat, he torments/supports his doomed drunken brother.
