Drama Desk nominee Fred M. Caruso, the producer behind the Off-Broadway hit NEWSICAL and co-writer/co-director of THE BIG GAY MUSICAL, died yesterday, June 13, after reportedly committing suicide. Caruso left a note on the Facebook page for THE BIG GAY MUSICAL.

Rick Crom, who wrote the book, music, and lyrics for NEWSICAL and the music for THE BIG GAY MUSICAL, confirmed the news in his own post on the film's page:

Caruso also co-wrote and co-directed the 2011 film GO GO CRAZY, and produced A FOUR LETTER WORD and WHAT HAPPENS NEXT.

BroadwayWorld sends our deepest condolences to the friends and family of Caruso.
