Hayley Atwell joins Ken Stott and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio in a new production of A View from the Bridge which opens at the Duke of York's Theatre for a limited season from January 22, 2009 with the press night on February 5th. Acknowledged as one of the great classics of the twentieth century, this electrifying and deeply moving play proved to be a milestone in American theatrical history. Lindsay Posner directs.

Dockworker Eddie Carbone (Ken Stott) has made a good life for himself and his wife Beatrice (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio) and niece Catherine (Hayley Atwell) in 1950's Brooklyn. As a former immigrant himself, Eddie is happy to house and protect his wife's Italian cousins who arrive illegally in pursuit of the ‘American Dream'. What Eddie doesn't know is that this act of kindness will have a shattering effect on his whole life, and the lives of those he loves.

Hayley Atwell recently starred in the films Brideshead Revisited and The Duchess and her theatre credits include Major Barbara, Man of Mode and Women Beware Women. Ken Stott is well known for his TV and film roles including Messiah, The Vice, Rebus and Shallow Grave, his theatre roles include Yasmina Reza's Art and most recently God of Carnage. Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio has appeared extensively in film and theatre including The Perfect Storm, Consenting Adults, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and The Abyss, and on stage in Grand Hotel, Man Of La Mancha and Twelfth Night. Lindsay Posner won two Olivier awards for his Royal Court production of Death and the Maiden and has most recently directed Fool for Love, Fiddler on the Roof and Carousel in the West End.

Arthur Miller is arguably America's finest playwright whose other landmark works include The Crucible and Death of a Salesman.

A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE is designed by Christopher Oram with lighting by Peter Mumford and is produced by Kim Poster for Stanhope Productions and Sonia Friedman Productions.
