On August 4, 1892, Lizzie Borden's father and stepmother were found bludgeoned in their family home. Lizzie was arrested for murder and the trial date set for June 5, 1893. The trial lasted 14 days and caused a national sensation as it was the first public trial in the United States to be covered extensively by the media. Kansas City, Mo. (Oct. 23, 2013) – Tickets for Kansas City Ballet's 41st annual production of The Nutcracker,presented at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, went on sale at 9:00 a.m., October 21. The production, featuring the choreography of Todd Bolender, returns for 18 public performances and three matinees for schools. This two-act ballet continues to delight audiences with its magnificent sets, costumes and special effects. Three casts of Kansas City Ballet dancers and the new KCB II, plus more than 175 local youngsters ages 7 to 22 selected from Kansas City Ballet School, will perform E.T.A. Hoffman's story.

The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church presents 'Faith & Culture,' a ministry to inaugurate its first major programming endeavor this fall: a music-based lecture series titled Tastemakers & Pioneers curated by Marina Harrison. Serving to introduce the community to many creative disciplines of the humanities, 'Faith & Culture' focuses on music, literature, history, film and theatre, and fine art. Several prominent individuals in the music community, considered innovators and highly-regarded experts, have committed to be a part of this season. All lectures will take place at 7pm and attendees are invited to special Meet-and-Greet Receptions with the artists afterwards.
