The Longwood Players continues its 11th season celebrating women with a stunning musical based on the work of Federico Fellini. Nine has music & lyrics by Maury Yeston (book by Arthur Kopit). It is adapted from the Italian by Mario Fratti.
The show will be performed at the Cambridge Family YMCA theatre on April 24, 25, 30, May 1, and May 2 at 8 pm.

This February, TV celebrities and new Hershey area residents Terry Farrell ('Becker', 'Star Trek: Deep Space Nine' and 'Back To School') and Brian Baker (best known as 'The SPRINT PCS Guy') will star in the Hershey Area Playhouse production of A.R. Gurney's Love Letters. The production will be the first collaborative project, and Playhouse debut, for this real-life husband and wife.
Farrell began her career as an Elite Fashion Model, and was featured on the covers of Elle, Vogue, Mademoiselle, and Self.

Nine finalists will compete for a cash prize totaling $5,000 in the Howard County Arts Council?s 2009 Rising Star Emerging Performing Artist Awards on Saturday, April 25, 2009, at the 12th annual Celebration of the Arts in Howard County, to be held at the Jim Rouse Theatre, Wilde Lake High School, Columbia. The Celebration is a multi-faceted signature event, showcasing and raising funds for the arts in Howard County . Performing artists between the ages of 18-35, currently or recently living, working, performing regularly, or receiving training in Howard County, auditioned in January before a panel of professionals working in their field of discipline. Review criteria include artistic merit, demonstrated experience in the arts, and commitment to a career in the arts.

Baltimore's newest gang of artists, Nine Imaginary Cows Theater Collective, presents a brand-spanking-new work for the stage: There Have Been Other Men in My Wife's Bed (A Marital Arrangement for 3 Actors), running February 26 through March 7 at Theatre Project (45 West Preston Street, Baltimore). Contra Costa Civic Theatre will open its production of Nine (The Musical) on Friday, February 6, 2009. Directed and choreographed by Amy Nielson, with musical direction by Joe Simiele, Nine was the winner of numerous Tony awards, including Best Musical and Score in 1982 and Best Revival in 2003, and will soon be made into a movie.. It features a book by Arthur Kopit and music and lyrics by Maury Yeston. The musical was inspired by Federico Fellini's movie 8 1/2 and was adapted from the Italian by Marrio Fratti.
CCCT's production features Derrick Silva as Guido Contini, a famous Italian film director. His last three films have been flops. A creative block sends him into the fearful throws of a mid-life crisis, questioning his life's direction and his own mortality. What does an artist do if he cannot create?

THE ORPHANS' HOME CYCLE, a world premiere production of nine plays by Horton Foote that have been newly adapted by the Pulitzer Prize and Academy Award-winning playwright into a three-part theatrical event, will be co-produced in the 2009-2010 season by Signature Theatre Company (James Houghton, Founding Artistic Director; Erika Mallin, Executive Director) and Hartford Stage (Michael Wilson, Artistic Director; Michael Stotts, Managing Director).
The productions will be directed by Michael Wilson and performed at Hartford Stage from August 27, 2009 to October 17, 2009 and at Signature Theatre Company, from October 29, 2009 to April 11, 2010. Each part of the three part cycle will be staged individually as well as in repertory and one-day marathons. Audiences may choose to see the individual parts or the entire trilogy. THE ORPHANS' HOME CYCLE encompasses nine newly adapted plays by Mr. Foote, together for the first time. Mr. Foote, 92, is actively adapting each of the full-length plays, some previously produced and others never before seen, into one epic cycle.

Aussie news website LiveNews had a brief chat with NINE film star Penelope Cruz, and the sulty star admitted that performing the classic 'A Call From the Vatican' number from the show and sure to be a highlight in the film version, left her blistered and bruised-but she loved doing it!The song required the actress to perform a rope routine and the stunt left her worried she would lose her grip and fall.
Cruz explained to the site 'When something like that happens, you just have to keep going and forget about any physical pain. I was dancing in the dark with one spotlight on me, so I had to be extremely alert and focused.
'There were other things to think about, so I was not in pain while dancing - I was just praying not to fall!'

Thanks to the generosity of one of its board members, the Metropolitan Opera announced today that a number of prime orchestra seats, usually $175 - $220, will be available for $30 for all nine performances of John Adams's Doctor Atomic. Agnes Varis, a managing director of the Met board, and her husband Karl Leichtman, have purchased $500,000 worth of some of the best orchestra seats for Doctor Atomic, so that they can be redistributed at this lower price.
