Kyrian Friedenberg Cast In ALT's Golden Ticket 3/25, 4/4

Lawrence Edelson, Producing Artistic Director of American Lyric Theater, has announced that Kyrian Friedenberg, the ten-year old singer, violinist and actor most recently seen in Gypsy with Patty LuPone on Broadway, has been cast as Charlie Bucket in ALT's upcoming workshop and reading of The Golden Ticket, a new opera based on Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Speaking of the young performer, Edelson said that 'Kyrian has a wonderful voice, is incredibly musical, and has charisma that is truly contagious. After hearing him sing Charlie's first act Aria from The Golden Ticket, I had no doubt that he was the right boy to bring Roald Dahl's classic character to life in our upcoming workshop.'

Impact Theatre has added five final performances to the run of its 1980s-style Midsummer Night's Dream, which has been playing to sold-out houses, racking up rave reviews in the process. Lawrence Edelson, Producing Artistic Director of ALT, has announced that the company has commissioned The Golden Ticket, a new opera based on Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. In his announcement, Edelson explained that all of Dahl's beloved characters find a unique voice in this exciting new opera. 'If thoughts of Augustus Gloop being swept away in the Chocolate River, Violet Beauregarde inflating like a giant blueberry, Mike Teavee being demagnified into the tele-dimension, and Veruca Salt being thrown down the rubbish shoot by a gang of nut-inspecting squirrels sound like your idea of a fun night at the opera - or better yet, unlike any night at the opera or theater you've ever experienced - The Golden Ticket is....just the ticket!'

Baltimore's newest gang of artists, Nine Imaginary Cows Theater Collective, presents a brand-spanking-new work for the stage: There Have Been Other Men in My Wife's Bed (A Marital Arrangement for 3 Actors), running February 26 through March 7 at Theatre Project (45 West Preston Street, Baltimore). Impact Theatre continues its Bar Mitzvah 13th season with its production of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, directed by Impact Artistic Director Melissa Hillman. Midsummer opens February 13. 2009 and plays Thursdays through Saturdays at 8pm until March 21, 2009 (with a preview February 12) at Impact's home, La Val's Subterranean in Berkeley. The scene is a 1980s nightclub. Hermia loves Lysander. Lysander loves Hermia. Helena loves Demetrius. Demetrius loves (wait for it) Hermia. WTH? The four lovers run away to the forest, where Puck complicates matters by making the two men fall in love with Helena instead. Bottom, the club's hot chick bartender, leads a ragtag bunch of the club's staff as they attempt to put on a play to entertain club owner Theseus at his wedding to Hippolyta. Overseeing it all are Oberon and Titania, the feuding king and queen of the fairies. Titania must be a top, because she develops a thing for Bottom, who's got quite an ass-for a head.

Winner of the 1967 Pulitzer Prize, Edward Albee's A Delicate Balance comes to Arena Stage in a contemporary and provocative new staging under the direction of experienced Albee collaborator Pam MacKinnon. Featuring Broadway stars Kathleen Chalfant (Wit, Angels in America), Terry Beaver (Henry IV, The Last Night of Ballyhoo), Ellen McLaughlin (Angels in America) and Carla Harting (Eurydice),joined by Helen Hedman and James Slaughter, A Delicate Balance runs February 6-March 15, 2009 at Arena Stage in Crystal City. The press opening performance is Thursday, February 12, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. 'Albee is fearless about writing stories that get us in the solar plexus, and he does so with his brilliant wit, dynamic storytelling and rigorous use of language,' shares Artistic Director Molly Smith.
