The Coterie opens its 35th anniversary season with the World Premiere of Red Badge Variations, an emotional and thought-provoking new play that takes the classic soldier archetypes established in Stephen Crane's classic Civil War novel, The Red Badge of Courage, and sets them in Afghanistan today. Written by Melissa Cooper and directed by Kyle Hatley, Red Badge Variations runs September 17 - October 5, 2013.

The Coterie presents Bud, Not Buddy, a jazz-era mystery set in the Midwest about the adventures of Bud, a young boy whose search for his father - who he is convinced is a prominent jazz musician - sets him off a humorous and heartwarming journey that leads him to a new understanding of 'family.' Directed by Scot Copeland, Bud, Not Buddy runs April 9 - May 24, 2013.

"Our 34th season will be another ambitious one for the Coterie. The Coterie's Lab for New Family Musicals will host an awesome holiday production and work with the composing/writing team behind Shrek the Musical to create the premiere Theatre for Young Audiences version," said Jeff Church, producing artistic director. "There will be several wonderful productions based on books: Christopher Paul Curtis' Bud Not Buddy, Lois Lowry's Number the Stars and a piece based on Scholastic's Dear America Series.

What happens once the Ugly Duckling comes out of her shell? She takes a show business journey to become a singing swan superstar! Kansas City audiences can catch the one-night-only performance of Lucky Duck by the Coterie Theatre at 7 p.m. March 8 at the Folly Theater, 1020 Central. The musical comedy with its Kansas City cast will then take flight for its debut at the New Victory Theater in New York March 16-25.
