This year marks the 150th anniversary of the end of the American Civil War, one of the most lethal conflicts in American history but also an event that was pivotal in shaping the identity and future of the United States. Set in Virginia, following the final days of the Civil War, Matthew Lopez's play The Whipping Man revisits the fall of the American Confederacy and the end of slavery and is a moving and provocative look at this significant period of American history - the effects of which are still reverberating in US society today.
In a new production commissioned by the Finborough Theatre and originally seen as a staged reading as part of Vibrant -- A Festival of Finborough Playwrights 2013, the world premiere of We Know Where You Live by Steven Hevey, the award-winning Playwright-on-Attachment at the Finborough Theatre, runs at the Finborough Theatre, playing nine Sunday and Monday evenings from Sunday, 2nd August 2015 (Press Night: Monday, 3rd August 2015 at 7.30pm).
Full casting is announced today for the first production in the Gate Theatre's Freedom Burning season, Andrew Whaley's award-winning play The Rise and Shine of Comrade Fiasco - a witty and energised allegory of life in post-colonial Zimbabwe. The production is directed by Elayce Ismail, the recipient of this year's JP Morgan Award for Emerging Directors.
