Survey: New Jersey's Cape May is Second Most Expensive U.S. Destination

Cape May, located at the southern tip of the Cape May Peninsula in New Jersey, is the United States' second most expensive destination this summer based on its lodging costs. A new survey from CheapHotels.org made this discovery after comparing hotel rates for all destinations in the USA for the upcoming main holiday period of July 1 through August 31.

Travelers to Cape May will have to spend an average of $204 per night, and that's for the most affordable double rooms. Only such hotels ranked a minimum of 2 stars and
Having at least an average TripAdvisor rating were taken into consideration by the survey.

A bit more expensive, and thus earning the title of the USA's most expensive destination, is Provincetown. This Massachusetts city located in Cape Cod, averaged $217 per night. New Jersey also had a second destination make a showing in the Top 20 list. Wildwood Crest, located only a few miles south of Cape May, came in twentieth most expensive at an average of $146 nightly.

The following table shows the 10 most expensive destinations in the USA based on the cost of staying there this summer. The prices shown are based on the average rate for each locale's cheapest available double room during the time period spanning July through August 2012.
